Insanely Useful Spanish Words/Phrases

Here's a list of some of the words I find most useful:

  • agradecer: to thank
  • sugerir: to suggest
  • fumar: to smoke and also to fail (like fracasar)
  • chévere: cool, in style
  • (el) chiste verde: dirty joke
  • (el) consejo: advice
  • actualmente: in present day
  • además: moreover (use this to connect ideas in your essays)

Here is a list of phrases you should know as well (especially for the AP test!):

  • En espera de su pronta respuesta: in hopes of your prompt response (to sign off that letter portion)
  • Ha pasado mucho tiempo hasta que te vi: it has been a while since I saw you (a nice greeting for hat spoken portion)
  • ¿Cómo te va?: How's it going? How are you? (for the speaking greeting)
  • se acabó: it's over (for those dramatic breakups)
  • Aconsejo que (subjunctive): I recommend that...
  • Estoy de acuerdo contigo: I agree with you.

Still looking for a more in-depth way to improve your vocabulary? I would recommend going to quizlet.com and searching CBAT. A few years back, useful words and phrases were released from the college board for the AP Spanish exam. CBAT is a list of these words and phrases. There should be twenty-one CBAT lists in total. They really helped me do well on the AP Spanish exam! Obviously, there are more useful words, but these are a good start.

Best of luck to you,

Kaylee
